The Chenrezig Sand Mandalas.

Wednesday 4th to Sunday 15th December

Join us at the Crystal Castle & Shambhala Gardens from Wednesday 4th December as we welcome back the monks from the Sera Mey Monastery for the creation of two very special sand mandalas; The Medicine Buddha sand mandala and the Chenrezig (Sanskrit: Avalokiteshvara) sand mandala.

Join the monks each day at 10.30am for meditation and to hear their beautiful chanting. Then watch the amazing creation of the sand mandala daily from 11am. Each afternoon at 3.10pm there will be a meditation and sacred Kora walk around the World Peace Stupa.

Journey to Shangrila

Thursday 7 November 2013

This clever, three-dimensional ‘trompe l’oeil’ mural, by award-winning local artist Peta Laurisen (assisted by Tiffany Calder Kingston), spans the whole of the west wall of the Crystal Castle courtyard.

Painted in her specialty style that gives an illusion of depth, tricking the eye into believing it is viewing a real scene, the mural features a grand archway inspired by the famous Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia with a winding stairway leading up to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang). Taktsang is one of the holiest Buddhist monasteries in Bhutan, especially venerated because the Guru Rinpoche was said to have flown to the monastery mounted on a flaming tigress. The tiger stands guard at the entranceway, bringing awareness to the plight of this majestic animal, which is on the brink of extinction.
Symbols from twelve of the world’s main faiths are etched in the stone of the archway to represent the Oneness of humanity.

This is a very popular spot for our visitor’s to take photos.
