TONI CHILDS AND THE CRYSTAL CASTLE – A FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE FOR THE EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS OF NEPAL

In May 2015, a hugely successful benefit concert was held at the Crystal Castle with famous singer Toni Childs and many talented local musicians. The day and night of music attracted enormous support from the local community and beyond, who helped raise a whopping $58,000 for the earthquake victims of Nepal.

After the concert a small self funded team travelled to Nepal to assess first hand how they could provide the most help. Singer, songwriter and activist, Toni Childs, filmmaker Mik Lavage, photographer Renae Saxby, Naren King and his filmmaker son Toby spent several weeks in Nepal.

The situation in Nepal was a sad, tragic mess, with 600,000 homes destroyed and 2.5 million people displaced, on top of which there were over 400 aftershocks. The team spent time in some of the internal refugee camps with up to 7,000 people living in them, and witnessed first hand, the
scale of the disaster.

They distributed $30,000 equally to three chosen causes: Access Nepal, Tents to Nepal and Karuna Shechen Relief Fund, and during their time in Nepal, the team checked out what they had been doing.

Partnering with Non Government Organisations, on the ground, already successfully navigating building shelters for the homeless, the team distributed the rest of the funds raised. These projects are ongoing and Rebuild Nepal will continue to support communities that have been so far forgotten.

As the Dalai Lama said, there can be no peace when people are cold and hungry.

Donations are still very much needed, so if you feel to contribute, on behalf of the Nepali people, thank you.

Now, we are busy preparing for the next Rebuild Nepal benefit concert with Toni Childs and other amazing musicians, to be held here again at the Crystal Castle & Shambhala Gardens, on Saturday October 29th, 2016.

We are deeply grateful for everyone’s generous support at last year’s event, and we look forward to another successful fundraiser. Nepal is still in trauma, with an overwhelming amount of work and support still needed. Your attendance and generosity at this year’s event will enable us to continue creating a massive difference in the lives of the Nepalese people.
